Lee Roy Selmon has a background that is a combination of family scholarships football and volunteering for the community. He is the youngest child of Lucious Selmon and Jessie Semon. They took care of him at the farm they owned in Eufala. Another reason for his football career was that his father was the only of three brothers to play with Oklahoma. Three of them were All-Americans. Lucious Jr. Dewey, Lee Roy, and Lucious Jr. Dewey started the 1973 season. Lee Roy is the winner of both Outland Awards as well as Lombardi Awards. He was the best lineman in across the country. During his three-year tenure as the starting quarterback for Oklahoma and Sooners' starting quarterback, they went 32-1-1 and captured two national titles. A third scholarship saw him named an National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete in 1975. Selmon received his bachelor's degree in education. Lee Roy spent ten hours every week in volunteer work in his college days. After college he settled in Tampa and played for nine seasons with the Buccaneers was the all-pro 3 times, and began an entrepreneurial career. In 1988, while working as an account relations officer at First Florida Bank of Tampa He was a member of the Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. It was not a surprise when In 1982, the Junior Chamber of Commerce named Lee Roy among the top ten outstanding young people across the nation. Lee Roy, a 6-2-inch higher and weighing in at more than 256 pounds when he played in the college level as a player, captained his team during the season of 1975. In 1993, he became the assistant director of the University of South Florida. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame since 1988. In 1989, the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation awarded the Distinguished American Award Mr. Lucious Sr. The presentation was made by Henry Bellmon govenor of Oklahoma.
